All our public software is offered as shareware which we believe is a fair basis - try before you buy. You can download and try out a fully functional copy of our software subject only to some restrictions on how much you can use it, and then if you find it suits your needs, you can remove those restrictions by purchasing a license.

In order to help you get the most from our software we offer detailed support through this section of our website, and if you cannot find your answer here, then we offer support by email from our Contact page.

You should note that PATools is a small organisation serving a global market, and since you can try out fully functional software with help files before buying, we only offer shareware support on our website and by email.

A bug?

All PATools public software is in daily use and has been thoroughly tested. However, as in any software, it is impossible to test for every eventuality, and it is just possible that there may be the occasional bug. In the unlikely event that you should find one please complete our contact form.

Annual licensing

Some users have asked why we operate annual licensing?

There are several answers:

• you get free upgrades for the whole life of your license, rather than others who demand you buy a new license with each new release (eg we keep having to purchase a new license for our zip software because we wanted the latest functionality - our old 'so-called lifetime license' had effectively become obsolete
• licenses cost less than they would if they were lifetime, and this benefits many customers who use our software for just one specific project
• it helps ensure that customers visit our site at regular intervals, thereby encouraging upgrade to the latest release
• it helps prevent software fraud since the licenses only have limited validity
• PATools requires a continual income stream from shareware to ensure continued product development of new and existing software (which is specialist in nature and not mass-market); this ultimately benefits our users
